Obituary for Charles "Gene" E. Ruff

C.E. “Gene” Ruff, 97, went peacefully home on Sunday morning, December 2, 2018., at Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls.
He was born to John and Elizabeth (Quirk) Ruff on July 2, 1921, in the Town of Edson.
He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Elementary School and McDonell High School, graduating in 1939, he than attended AG short course in River Falls in 1939, in the spring of 1940 he pursued work on the Great Lakes Cargo Ships. In 1943 he started sailing ocean cargo Liberty Ships with the Merchant Marines, carrying war supplies and soldiers where needed, serving in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Oceans and the Mediteranian. In January 1945 he attended the US Marine Service Officers Training School in New London, Ct until June and obtained 3rd mate navigators license, he then sailed Victory Ships in the Pacific until August 1946, where he was in Manila when the war ended.
Gene returned to Wisconsin and worked at Madison Silo and a Flour Mill in Superior and returned to the Town of Edson in 1947 to pursue farming, as he always wished.
Gene was a member of All Saints Parish, Cadott American Legion, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Family Life, Sacred Heart Cemetery Board and the NFO.
On June 7, 1949, he married Dorothy Meyer. They continued farming in Edson, where they raised their family.
Gene is survived by their 3 daughters Jean (Keith) Taylor of Cadott, Joyce (Gene) Collier of Chippewa Falls, and Jeri (Mike) Powalish of Germantown, WI, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 on the way, 1 sister, Bernadette Moore of Lake Hallie, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend of nearly 64 years Dorothy, his parents, 5 children in infancy, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the
Mae Rowan Ecumenical Chapel at Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls with Deacon Ned Willkom officiating. Military Honors conducted by the Cadott American Legion and VFW will follow the services at the Chapel.
Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday at the Mae Rowan Ecumenical Chapel.
